Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character created by the author and physician Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes is famous for his prowess at using logic to solve cases. He lived in London where he spent many years with his friend Dr. Watson while the residence was maintained by Mrs. Hudson. Holmes solves cases too difficult for others. He can solve problems without leaving home.
Doyle credits the inception of Holmes on his teacher at Edinburgh University, the gifted surgeon and forensic detective Joseph Bell. It is a popular myth that Sherlock Holmes gave rise to the genre of murder mystery fiction; in reality, the detective genre was alive before Holmes.
Some fictional detectives like Holmes' legacy include Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot, Dick Tracy, and even the comic book superhero Batman. Modern variants are American shows like Monk. Monk even replicates the Holmesian style of ”quiet analysis”. Also, Monk has an older brother, who, like Holmes, is less interested in crime.

The National Gallery is an art gallery in London, on the north side of Trafalgar Square. It holds the National Collection of Art from 1250 to 1900. Some British art is included, but the National Collection of British art from this period is mainly in Tate Britain. The collection of 2,300 paintings belongs to the British public, and entry to the main collection is free, though there are charges for entry to special exhibitions.
The National Gallery was established in 1824, when the banker John Julius Angerstein was bought by the British government. For the first 14 years of its existence it had to exist in temporary accomodation in Angerstein's former townhouse on 100 Pall Mall. In 1904 Mary Richardson, a member of the suffragette movement, walked into the Gallery and slashed Velรกzquez's 'Rokeby Venus' in protest at the mistreatment of women.

DRIVING ABROAD:
Please take into account when you use a car abroad you must have all your documents with you. For example, your passport, your driving license and insurance papers in case of an accident. It can be very inconvenient if you miss any of these or if you cannot find them quickly. You must also make sure that your car has a nationality plate which shows the country where the car is registered; for example, S for Spain, G for Germany, D for Denmark and so on.
In some countries you have to pay if you don't obey traffic laws and this can sometimes cost you a lot of money. For example, you have to pay immediately if a police officer aks you to stop, for taking no notice of traffic lights, speed limits or if you allow children under the age of twelve to travel in the front seat of a vehicle.

FRIENDS:
Some friends come into our lives for just a short time. Others come and stay forever. Think about your closest friends. How long have you known each other? Some people say that their spouse or family member is their best friend. Others say they have known their closest friends for many years.
On the other hand, great friends have not known each other all that long, but they knew right away that there was a connection, or bond, between them. Could it be that there is a twin spirit out there for each of us?
What turns a stranger or acquaintance into a friend? Do you know right away if you are going to like someone? Some people think that any stranger can become a friend if they spend enough time together. That may be true for some people. But one thing all of us agree on is that true friendships seem to happen when people have something in common. Perhaps we see a part of ourselves in our friends. Maybe seeing the good in them helps us to see the good in us as well.
